Buttercakes and Cream – Blk
This is a cosy little hole-in-the-wall nestled in the heartlands. The limited seating capacity and minimal elbow room (not photographer-friendly) does not appear to deter the steady stream of people flowing in and out. Prices are extremely reasonable and the quality you get in return is quite impressive, making this a great regular haunt but not a destination for a mind-blowing experience. 3 desserts came up to a mere $25.
One can’t possibly go to a place with “buttercake” in its name and not try the Feuilletine Butter Cake ($3) right? Surprisingly light, this was closer to a sponge than pound and thus not a true buttercake in my book. It did – however – have a certain moistness and subtle buttery quality reminiscent of bread-and-butter pudding.
The Amaretto Souffle ($11) was commendably light and airy though it lost points for a too-subtle flavour once again.
Don’t let collapsed appearances fool you for the Warm Chocolate Pudding ($11) is a very solid and extremely rich dessert. The massive portion is ideally shared between two people as this overstuffed boy found out.
